From: Buffalo at NY 5
To: Rochester at NY 31
Via: Corfu, Batavia, Churchville, North Chili
Name: Buffalo Road, [W./E. Buffalo Street], West Avenue, West Main Street, (NP) Kensington Expressway
Notes: Once the Way To Go to Buffalo, it's still as good as any (NYS Thruway-bollocks!). (NP)
History: NY 33 used to extend through the city out University Ave (present day NY 286) and NY 441 was 33B. I saw this at on a map at the Rundell Library. Also 441 and 286 later acquired alternative routes which have been deactivated. Prior to it's current location, 441 went down Penfield Rd. When Linden Ave was extended, Penfield Ave became 441A. Also, when Browncroft Blvd was rebuilt, 286 moved off of Blossom Ave and for a time Blossom Ave was 286A. Also, NY 47 once started at Empire Blvd and went down Winton to Elmwood. This was before the expressways were built. It used to end somewhere over where 386 and 31 meet now. Interstate 390 was originally to extend North from where it now meets Interstate 590, continuing into the city along Clinton Avenue, meeting up with 490 at Goodman. There are still NYS DOT signs in empty lots where the highway was supposed to go. (BC)
